CAIN'S 999 IDEA CAME FROM A VIDEO GAME
Some believe Cain's 999 plan may have come from the popular computer game called SimCity.
Amanda Terkel explains: “Long before Cain was running for president and getting attention for his 999 plan, the residents of SimCity 4 — which was released in 2003 — were living under a system where the default tax rate was 9 percent for commercial taxes, 9 percent for industrial taxes and 9 percent for residential taxes.” These numbers are exactly the same as Cain’s.
The problem with the 999 plan, though, isn’t just that it may have been thought up as a simple video game parameter: rather, it is a wildly unfair taxing regime. Following Cain’s plan would provide a substantial tax cut to the richest Americans, subsidized by exorbitant tax hikes on the poor and middle class. According to a non-partisan economic report, this would lead to effective tax rates on everyone in excess of 27%, about double what most American families pay. Since the poor pay a higher percentage of their income than the rich on sales taxes, it’s possible that this plan will solidify higher tax rates for the poor than the rich — a reverse Buffett Rule.
Given those outcomes, it’s hard to believe it wasn’t cooked up in some video game.
Obama claims the only reason he isn't taxing the rich is because the Republicans won't let him. The only reason he didn't prosecute the financial rapists is because they didn't break any laws...not even fraud laws! People are buying this nonsense. Since Obama doesn't have any serious rivals to challenge him in 2012...looks like we're in for another 4 years of bombing and looting.
